Hello, my name is Brandon Hoy. I'm 25 yrs.old and I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. I have 4 lovely sisters and two bro's.
At an early age I learned I loved the outdoors and I loved being in the woods hiking, exploring, seeing animals and I was always wanting not to be in the house. It was definitely my source of getting away.
In may of 2006 at 22 yrs.old, I joined Montana Conservation Corps. Went from Dayton, Ohio, to Billings, Montana. Riding 45 hours on a Greyhound Bus is no fun. When I did get there, some of the places I worked in was Glacier National Park repairing fencing, to Big Horn Canyon in Wyoming, restoring Caroline Lockharts Historic Ranch...all while making our own food camping out under the stars! Long story short, loved my experience so much that I decided to join another Americorps program:Austin Environmental Corps! I traveled from Far West Texas, El Paso, building a trail on the ridge line of the Franklin Mountains @ Franklin Mountains State Park to East Texas, Huntsville Lake State Park, constructing foot bridges along the trails. All this hard work showed me that it feels good to do something that you know is right. To me civil service is something we all have in our blood, we just have to tap deep down sometimes. That's one of the reasons I'm doing this bike ride. I feel as a human being that if we are aware of issues such as Child Abuse and Domestic Violence and we have an opportunity to help that we should, and I want to show people it is that easy of a decision to make.
